Our Baby Girl’s Room

Jimmy and I worked so hard to make the perfect room for Lu. Before we painted it a neutral tan color, the walls were royal blue! It took a lot to cover up, but with the help from Grandpa Denny, he and Jimmy did a great job. I painted the trim and ugly orange fireplace white – which I love! Mom bought Ellie’s bedding and gave it to me at the shower. I picked it out months before, but didn’t expect for it to be so perfect. I fell in love with it! As you can see, we finally got our crib, which I think looks really good! Overall, I am proud of Ellie’s room and I think that when she is old enough to form her own opinion, she will love it, too! :)

Ellie’s crib and bedding. I really like the birds. It’s funny that we bought so many things with birds on them – because right after Ellie was born at the hospital, she kept making the funniest faces and opening her mouth. Mom started to call her “Bird” because she said she reminded her so much of a little bird. The nickname has stuck since then. :)
Notice that Ellie’s Scentsy Buddy, Lenny the Lamb came in - - isn’t he cute?!

Ellie’s changing table. I can’t wait for her to be big enough to use her Jenny Jumper. When Mollie, Jesse and I were babies, we loved ours! Ellie’s was a gift from Grandma Ronda and Grandpa Rodney. Ignore the tag on the rug in this picture and the next – I really need to cut those off!

Ellie’s armoire – which is PACKED with the cutest outfits! :) Granny Linda bought her the Diaper Genie – which Jimmy and I are so thankful for. It is definitely a must-have!

Kobe wasn’t sure about his little sister at first, but now he has grown to be very protective of her. When visitors come, he is the first one to check them out and make sure its okay for them to hold his baby sister, Ellie. ;)

Lovely to Meet You!

It is so fun to show Ellie off to all of our friends and family. I love seeing them smile while they hold her. She has brought so much joy to all of our lives already! Here are a few shots of some visits. “Auntie Claire” has made several trips to see Ellie – all the way from Columbia! Each time she comes over, she bears gifts – some of the CUTEST outfits from Gymboree. Ellie will definitely be the best dressed baby around! :)

Coming Home

It is so obvious that I am a new mommy because I am constantly snapping pictures of my baby girl. On the way home from the hospital, I think I snapped about a hundred of her. She rides in the car so well – doesn’t fuss or anything. I only hope that it stays this way! Here’s Ellie in her pumpkin seat doing what she does best – being so precious.

Happy Birthday

Here are some pictures of Ellie’s birthday. It is so crazy how much her looks change each day, but I can still see a lot of them in her first pictures from the hospital.

I consider myself to be very lucky to have had such an easy delivery. I arrived at the hospital at 11:00 AM and had Ellie just ten hours later. When I got there, I was only dilated to a 1! After walking the halls with Jimmy for about an hour, my contractions became so strong that I could no longer walk through them. The nurse checked me again and I was dilated to a 2. I opted for pain medication through my IV, as I wanted to keep walking a bit more and hold off on the epidural. I had a small allergic reaction to the pain medication, so we went ahead with the epidural. I have to say that it was the most painful part of my whole experience. About an hour later, the nurse came in and told me that I was now dilated to a 6. I told her to call the doctor in because I knew it wouldn’t be long. Twenty minutes later I begged her to come back and check me again, she seemed reluctant since she just checked me not long before, but I told her I knew it was time. She seemed surprised when she checked me to find that it was time to start pushing. I pushed for about ten minutes, then my doctor arrived. After two more sets of pushing, Ellie was here! I’m so glad I only had to push for 15 minutes. I really don’t see how some women can do it for two or three hours! Jimmy and Mollie were in the delivery room with me, and we were all so emotional. It was such a beautiful thing. I will never forget how I felt when little miss Ellie was put into my arms for the first time. I know now that there is no other love that can be compared to the love a mommy has for her baby girl. :)

Fashionably Late

After 40 long weeks and 3 miserable days, Ellie has finally made her first appearance. Jimmy and I couldn’t be happier with our precious little bundle of joy. Being new parents is everything we expected and more. We are so lucky to have such a beautiful and healthy baby girl. We look forward to spending the many days to come with little miss Ellie.

Wondrous Wednesday

I bet you are wondering why this Wednesday is so "wondrous." Well, tomorrow is Veteran's Day, a holiday honoring military veterans. I think of the veterans that have fought for our freedom and the soldiers that are currently fighting overseas for their country occasionally, but not as often as I should. I'd like to take the time to thank these men and women for what they are doing, not only because I get the day off tomorrow, ;) but also because I truly am thankful to live in such a great country with so many brave and courageous people.

On another note, this weekend was the BABY SHOWER! I looked forward to it for so long and was so happy for the day to come on Sunday. Claire Maples, Becki Smith, Prezley Duncan, Peggy White, and Robin Warren all helped out with planning the shower. They are all AWESOME and did such a good job! So many people showed up and I was really glad to see everyone. I felt so blessed to have such caring and loving people in my life. I can't wait for Luella to get here so she can meet everyone that is so anxiously waiting for her arrival. I don't have any of the pictures right now (Mom developed them yesterday), but will be sure to update sometime before the end of the week. If you happen to be friends with Claire on Facebook, I'm sure she will have some, err, glamorous shots of me on there soon enough! ((( Can you hear the sarcasm? )))

The worst thing about the shower being last weekend is that I have almost all of the stuff for Ellie's room, so that makes me ten times more impatient for her to be born! I have spent the whole week in there organizing and getting things ready for when she gets here. Jimmy thinks I'm crazy because I sit in there folding laundry, organizing drawers, rearranging the room, touching up paint, etc. That's okay though, I just love being in there! I finally got the rugs for the room this week - they really tie things together and make things feel so much "homier." I originally had picked out a brown shag, but I opted out for a pink/green/brown/tan thick shag rug from Target. ----> love Target and LOVE the rug! Another new addition that is on its way to Ellie's house is Lenny the Lamb! Since I have started selling Scentsy, I have become addicted to their products. Lenny is a "Scentsy Buddy" and by adding a fragrance pack to his little body, he will smell like that fragrance. Of course, I picked the "Newborn Nursery" scent. (I bought a few bars in that scent, too!)

The reason I am waiting to post pictures of the nursery is because we had to order a new crib. The crib we were given from a friend was missing a part and when I went online to buy the part, we found out the crib was recalled. No big deal, I would just send in the part that was recalled and get a new one - - - well the part that had the problems was the one I needed! For some reason that makes no sense at all, the company wouldn't send me the new, non-recalled part without submitting the previous part used. Therefore, I am waiting on the crib that we ordered in place of the other one. With it, the room will be complete! Can't wait to share! Stay tuned . . .

Well I think I have rambled enough! ;) Until next time . . .

Just a Little Update

I am so bad! I haven't posted for so long and I promised myself in the beginning that if I was going to do this, I was going to do it right . . . but I'm already slacking! It has been a busy month! I have gotten so many things accomplished, but feel like I still have so much more to do before Ellie gets here!
I love making lists. They make me feel so accomplished when I can mark things off of them. When I was little, I hated lists, because my Mom so often left them for me while she was gone at work and I was home in the summer. Now that I have my own house though, I understand why she loved leaving me lists and keeping them around for herself. Here are a few things that I was able to mark off my list for this month:
  • Paint Ellie's Room - Jimmy and Denny did a great job of painting her room. Originally, we planned to go with a light green. We decided to switch it out for a light tan . It turned out really good!
  • Paint the Trim in Ellie's Room - Most people probably think this should be part of "Paint Ellie's Room," but I tell you, it was such a job in its own! I painted all the trim in the room and the once-orange brick fireplace white. It took me about 4 nights to do just two coats! That is a lot of trim! (Not only is the trim on the bottoms of the walls and around the doors, but Ellie's room also has a double window, two stained glass windows, trim above the fireplace, and beautiful (awfully difficult to paint) french doors with glass panes. My favorite thing has to be the white brick fireplace though - it looks so AWESOME! :)
  • Pick out the "going home outfit" for Ellie to wear home from the hospital.
  • Clean out her dresser and armoire so it is ready for her clothes.
  • Pick up Beauty and the Beast to start Ellie's Disney movie collection. Jimmy thinks I am crazy to spend $25 on a movie, but my parents did it for me and I LOVED my Disney movies, so I am sure she will love them, too.
It may not seem like that is much, but trust me it has been such a busy month! I will have pictures soon to post of Luella's lovely bedroom. :) Can't wait to share! By the way, Sunday is the baby shower! Can't wait to see everyone!

Pretty Piggies!

Last week, my little cousin Gracie and I treated ourselves to a couple of spa pedicures! This was a very exciting day for the both of us, because it was Grace's first pedicure EVER and my very swollen feet deserved a little treat! ;) I was so happy to get to introduce Grace to the joys of going to get your toes done. It is crazy how such a little thing can make someone feel so good! Grace picked out a very cute orange color and opted for little white daisies on a couple of toes. They turned out so adorable! When Aunt Keri asked Grace what she thought about the experience, she said "It sure was different!" I was thankful her feet were not ticklish; sometimes I have a rough time holding still while they scrub my feet! I was nervous when the lady started to massage her toes and Grace raised her eyebrows so tall and smiled big - but she assured me it felt "so good!" I think I have created a little diva, because I can tell she will expect many more pedicures in her future! :) I can't wait until I get to take Ellie to her first pedicure - if she is anything like her Mom and big cousin Gracie, I know she will just love it!

"It Makes Perfect Scents"

To pass the time waiting for Ellie to arrive, I have decided to sign up to be a Scentsy consultant. I received my package filled with my starter kit last night and I couldn't be more thrilled! My Mom, Dad, Jimmy and I smelled each and every scent (there are SO many!) and we all picked out our favorites. There are tons of great scents to choose from and I am already in love with my new hobby! The best part is that my house will smell so great! :) I plan to have a "Grand Opening" very soon so stay tuned - everyone's invited! ;)

Third Trimester!

This past Sunday, September 19, I started my twenty-eighth week of pregnancy. That means I am now in my third trimester. At the beginning of my second trimester, 28 weeks seemed so far away, so I can't believe it is already here. I still feel like the days are dragging on, though . . . December seems so far away! I had a doctor's appointment on my birthday, September 13th. Everything went fine. I was excited to hear that I had past my glucose test that I had taken the Saturday before. Talk about gross - the stuff I had to drink was awful! Imagine a Sprite soda, but thicker and more syrup-ish. It was so hard to get down my throat! I was very thankful when I found out that I wouldn't have to take the three hour test at my appointment. I imagine that would be ten times worse! The only other thing that I found out at the appointment was that I am now on the "two week plan," which means I go to the doctor's office every two weeks. I am not too particularly excited about that, although hearing that heartbeat is oh, so reassuring. :)

My First Quilt

I have always wanted to make a quilt. They are so pretty and can be kept for years to come. I have a sewing machine and plenty of time on the weekends to be able to finish one before Ellie gets here. I would love for her first gift from me to be a baby quilt :) After talking with Mom, we decided a log cabin quilt would be the best choice. Last weekend, I went and bought the material at JoAnn's Fabric in Jefferson City. Usually I am so indecisive when it comes to things like that, but after laying eyes on the beautiful aqua blue with red, orange, lime, and yellow floral, I knew that I had found my first "dark." I based my other colors off of that first print and was all finished in about ten minutes. At first I wasn't sure if the colors were too crazy, but after receiving compliments from other shoppers in the checkout line, I knew I had done a good job for my first time :)

Presents from Auntie Claire

My best friend Claire was the first person to bring Ellie a present. She works at Gymboree in the Columbia Mall, so she has first look at some of the cutest outfits ever! So far, Ellie has two hanging in her closet, all with socks, headbands, hats, bloomers, and bibs to match. She will be so decked out and stylin'! She also bought Ellie four of her first books - all Dr. Seuss classics! Occasionally, I will read the books aloud for Ellie to hear at night before bed. Call me insane, but I know that she knows I'm reading her a bedtime story because she starts to kick like crazy!

What's in a Name?

It took me so long to decide on a name - especially one that everyone would agree on! Luella is a family name, that of my Grandma Ronda's Aunt. Her middle name will be Claire, in honor of my best friend Claire Maples. I am so thankful to have such a wonderful and supportive friend! I love the name - - - Luella Claire :) it just makes me smile thinking about it. She will go by Ellie (I think) - - - I know that is what I will call her at least. Other possible nicknames are: Ella, Lu, or Lulu. I am just so ready for little Luella Claire to make her first appearance. :)

First Blog Post EVER!

Throughout my pregnancy, I have kept tons of little notes about the journey. I plan on sharing these notes with everyone on my blog. I hope for this blog to be a good way to keep friends and family informed. I think it will be fun to look back on once Luella arrives. I have SO MUCH to say! Can't wait to get started! :)
