Ellie’s First “Bath”

As we are anxious for all of Ellie’s “firsts,” Jimmy and I couldn’t wait to give our baby girl her first “bath.” Until the umbilical cord falls off, only sponge baths are allowed for newborns. We used cotton balls to scrub our little baby up when she was just four days old. We were so worried about her getting cold, so we shut off her room and cranked up the heat! We were both sweating, but at least we knew she would be comfortable. She wasn’t too sure what to think about the whole experience. She didn’t seem to mind it at first, but before too long she let out some screams. Afterward, we lathered her up with one of my favorites ---> Baby Magic. She smelt so good! We are making a habit of putting some on her each day. Her skin is so soft and really has that “baby smell.”

Ellie’s umbilical cord fell off at 12 days old. Now she gets a real bath in our kitchen sink every other day or so. The funny thing is that bath time is Ellie’s favorite time! I didn’t think she would like the water all over her skin, but she really does enjoy it. I was pleasantly surprised the first time when I heard “ahh’s” and “coo’s” rather than the sad little screams we heard during her first cotton ball bath. That’s why we look forward to bath time – our sweetie truly is such a bundle of joy when we get to cuddle her afterward. :)
